There are 30 democratically elected public representatives on Mayo County Council. Among their wide and varied list of responsibilities are to: - Adopt the annual budget - Make or vary the County Development Plan - Make, amend and revoke byelaws

Municipal Districts

Each of the 4 Municipal Districts (MD's) in Mayo elect a Cathaoirleach & Leas Cathaoirleach annually. They have the authority to perform reserved functions, raise, discuss, and decide on local matters relevant to the MD

Local Elections

Local Elections, or the election of councillors, normally take place every five years. At the last local elections in 2019, thirty councillors were elected to Mayo County Council. The next local elections are expected to take place in 2024.
