County Mayo Heritage Plan

A Heritage Plan for County Mayo

The Mayo Heritage Plan is a working document, which identifies priorities and outlines the actions that will be taken by the Heritage Office, in partnership with the Heritage Forum, over a six year period, to conserve and raise awareness of natural, built and cultural heritage in Mayo.

The County Council, specifically the Heritage Officer, has a coordinating role in developing and implementing the County Heritage Plan. However, the County Heritage Plan is a cross-sectoral plan, incorporating commitments and actions to be implemented by many groups, agencies and organisations involved in the care, protection and management of heritage in the county.

The implementation of the plan can only be achieved in partnership with all stakeholders.

The second Heritage Plan for County Mayo covered the period 2011 to 2016, and was extended to 2019. It was adopted by Mayo County Council in September 2011, is available to download here.

Many of the projects and experiences of the first plan informed the development of the second plan, which will, in turn, inform the development of the forthcoming plan 2020 to 2025.
