Roonagh Pier
Large modern pier which accommodates daily ferry service between Roonagh Quay and both Clare Island and Inishturk with increased sailings to Clare Island during the summer months.
This large modern pier accommodates daily ferry services to both Clare Island and Inishturk though these are weather dependent and subject to change in inclement weather conditions. In the summer, there are increased ferry sailings to Clare Island (20 minute sailing), while in winter there are usually just two sailings per day (morning and evening).
There is a daily sailing to Inishturk and again increased sailings during the summer months. Visitors to Inishturk should note that on certain days it may be necessary to overnight on the island before catching the ferry back to the mainland the next day. It is always advisable to refer to the ferry company websites or the Discover Ireland Centre in Westport for times of sailings as these are subject to change throughout the year. Tickets can be purchased from the relevant ferry operator’s port-a-cabin in the car park prior to departure.
From the large car/coach park opposite the pier you can still see the original stone-built pier which is tidal, though still used by smaller craft. The journey to the islands affords the traveller uninterrupted views of this a spectacular Mayo coastline including Croagh Patrick, Achill Island, Mweelrea, the Nephin mountain range and north Connemara.
