March 23rd - WEBINAR and Q&A on Arts Council Funding Initiatives and Schemes.
Sinead O’Reilly, Head of Local, Place and Public Art at the Arts Council will introduce funding initiatives and schemes available to artists in 2021. The Arts Council announced more than 30 awards and funding schemes designed to give to a wide range of artists and arts organisations the opportunity to apply for support. Sinead will talk about different funding initiatives while highlighting the Arts Councils priorities for the year ahead.
Sinead will be joined by director of the Dock Arts Centre Sarah Searson who will share her knowledge of Arts Council funding applications from an assessors perspective. Also joining the webinar is multi-disciplinary artist Ceara Conway who will share her experience of soucing Arts Council funding across various platforms.
Sarah Searson has been working at executive and senior management level in the arts and education sector for over 25 years. Her career history articulates her interests in advancing arts and cultural organisations and projects, leading organisations in strategic development and ensuring their efficient operational management. Drawing on her wealth of experience, Sarah will look at funding applications from an assessor’s perspective, highlighting the do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ of writing a funding application and looking at what it takes to make your funding application stand out from others.
Ceara Conway is a visual artist, vocalist and performance artist. She is known for her experiential performance works that utilise live singing, appropriated texts, testimonies and visual art to explore social and cultural experiences of power and loss in response to issues such as cultural colonialism, migration and feminist concerns. Artist Ceara Conway will share her experience as a successful Arts Council funding recipient from varying funding platforms.

April 21st - Visual Artists Ireland Show & Tell for Mayo and Sligo artists
This Visual Artists' Café will put Mayo and Sligo based members in the spotlight in a 'Show & tell' format.
Featured will be 6 artists giving 6 different snapshots of the Mayo/Sligo based Visual Artist in 2020 and beyond; work, motivations, challenges and acclimation. What we experienced. What we learned.
The purpose of Show & Tell is to allow artists to present work or concepts to each other in an informal atmosphere. The events are also intended to provide the wider general audience with an inside view of artistic practice. A maximum of 6 artists will present as part of the Show & Tell over the course of the day.

Digital Upskilling Workshops for Arts Practitioners with Michael Fortune beginning, April 06th
Learn how to use digital tools to expand your practice and connect with fellow practitioners? This series of seven workshops run on Tuesdays and Fridays over four weeks is designed for those working remotely in Mayo.
Session 1: How to use your phone to make images and film for your online community. Find ways to utilise your phone to its fullest potential alongside the DIY tips needed to create tripods and accessories needed for shooting images and film.
Session 2: How to video on your mobile phone and iPad/tablet using the free cross platform App ‘InShot’.
Session 3: Produce stop-motion animations and time-lapse on your mobile phone and iPad/tablet using free software called iMotion and Stop Motion Studio.
Session 4: Broadcasting. Learn how to host events using Facebook live and Zoom. In this 60 minute session Michael will show you how to conduct all your PR for events using Facebook.
Session 5: Learn how to produce documentaries using found footage online.
Session 6: Using Free computer Apps such as Screen-cast O’Matic, Michael will walk you through all you need to know when recording presentations and films etc. using Screen-recording techniques.
Session 7. This final session shows how to record interviews by using free call-record software on your phone – ideal for radio interviews and podcasts. He will also show you how to use Zoom and Facetime to conduct interviews and record footage for film, podcast and documentary. This workshop will be handy for a variety of practices from music to film to documentary. He will also look at ways of saving and sharing video files including, WhatsApp, Wetransfer etc
Workshops will run from 12pm – 1pm for four weeks in the month of April on the following dates:
Tuesday 06th & Friday 09th, Tuesday 13th & Friday 16th, Tuesday 20th & Friday 23rd and Tuesday 27th.
